Michel Petrucciani, who had quickly recognized his qualities as both a pianist and as a musician. Mention in passing his second album with Niels-Henning Ørsted-Pedersen, because it was a testament to the blossoming of an artist ready to deliver his own message after years of apprentice-ship discovering and woodshedding the music of his great influence and predecessor Bud Powell.

Franck Avitabile is back. Still young at 30, he is more than ever in possession of an impressive mastery of his instrument and that subtle quality that Petrucciani called "the color of the notes", through which music goes beyond merenotes and the effervescence of the fingers on a hand and hammers on a piano to truly become music.

franck's discreet reharmonization of standards real so back, with and to his scientifics studies at the Ecole Normale Superieure de Lyon, as on Body and Soul or Bye Bye Blackbird. He makes other tunes, of richer provenance, even more completely his own, as on Duke Ellington's Prelude to a Kiss, Thelonious Monk's Bemsha Swing, or Miles Davis's All Blues.

Above all, Avitabile the brilliant interpreter of his own highly personal composition is back. On 'Round the Steps in particular, he opens the doors to an entire universe for us to explore."

Piano STEINWAY D

#547170 prepared by Pascal Bertonneau.

"Franck Avitabile is a French pianist, presented in the branch of the pianists virtuoso of the family tree of the pianists of jazz. His debuts as the successor of Michel Petrucciani made loud noise. It was THE revelation of the French jazz. The artistic concepts of every album are coherent. It is the pianist who promises a lot. It is necessary to follow him closely..."

Hiroki Sugita, Five young European jazz pianists, Newspaper "Yomiuri", Japan

"The new value sure of the French piano is called Franck Avitabile. Its harmonious ideas and its sense of the melody, its permanent search of originality seduced the public of the Duke of Lombards this winter {standing ovation}. Composer in the soul, its seven compositions, subtle and sparkling fragments as one pleases move closer certainly to the most justifiable hexagonal pianists to compete for the succession of the phenomenal Martial Solal."

Bruno Pfeiffer, Marianne

"His new trio with Rémi Vignolo, bassist in the drive irresistible, and Dré Pallemærts, drummer quite ears, is sensational"

Michel Contat, Télérama 2004

"We hear a nouvele freedom of tone, a jazz which slams, always served by a exceptional touch, Franck Avitabile unbridles its game, accelerates its executions, shows composer's talent besides inevitable standards arranged without condescension. "

Midi Libre

"Franck Avitabile excels in this art if private individual of the trio. Beautiful confirmation."

L'indépendant

"We hold the album of the maturity there, doubtless, and of the consecration, at least I hope for it, for our pianist of Lyons of origin and Parisian of heart. Having had the opportunity to be able to organize some rehearsals and concerts together with his musicians, Franck Avitabile gathered a real trio in total musical symbiosis there, although say about it certain criticisms."

P. Rugoni, "Indispensable" Jazz Hot n°597

"We find on Bemsha Swing that we notice mostly in concert, unwavering one complicity, a tremendous instinct of group and a pleasure to play ceaselessly shared. Of the swing and always the art of the surprise!"

Christian Delvoye, Lyon Capitale

"In hardly thirty years, Franck reaches a rare maturity which leaves the place, even in trio, to the bass player. This third album is the most accomplished for the moment of Avitabile's work."

F.D., Liberté Le Havre Dimanche

"The pianist builds a beautiful adventure of group with very popular Remi Vignolo and the subtle drummer Dré Pallemærts."

Nova presse

"Passionate and elegant pianist, walking on the tracks of his mentor Michel Petrucciani"

Aden

"The pianist is one of the musicians to follow by the new generation. He presents his compositions of a maturity without shyness."

Le Parisien

"The young man has just taken out a new CD " Bemsha Swing ", in which he flirts admirably with the standards - Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellington or the eternal " Body and Soul " - and the revealing personal compositions of a very big talent and of harmonious and melodic foisonnantes ideas."

Didier Pennequin, Le Quotidien du Medecin

"What pleasure that to be able to notice the evolution of disc in disc, a young musician as Franck Avitabile whom we followed here since his first album! Here is which proposes us in the head of a very coherent trio a perfectly mastered, well-balanced and thought music... He gives evidence of an inspiration full of coolness and a style, that of a musician of a contemporaneousness who indicates that he affected serene and happy one maturity today."

Henri Marchal, Jazz Journal International

"Franck Avitabile did not rush under sunlights, but let mature his immense talent in the light of time. Avitabile seizes with an irradiant intelligence of subjects of Monk, Ellington, Miles, but also his own compositions."

L'Humanité Hebdo

"For his third album, Avitabile resumes some standards of high beating and presente of the very promising compositions. The young pianist from Lyon City shows this essential quality there which liked Michel Petrucciani, the colour of notes."

La Tribune

"Avitabile is to hold the promises of which he was carrier from his first recording and, although still seduced by the brilliancy, we feel that he leaves more and more place to the interiority. If he continues on this way and gives to his keyboard more depth, to follow his evolution will be passionant"

Piano Magazine

"A striking of feather free a beating notes and it is Debussy who swings. This pianist of Lyons looks for the purity of the sound and the elegance of the style. With this opus, Franck Avitabile reaches the desired purpose."

Ramdam

"Original researcher, the young man already possessed in this time a training flirting with the excellence. It is THE pianist who rises."

Le Républicain Lorrain

"Avitabile has unsual power without sacrificing subtlely and expressiveness - definitely someone to watch"
